Swing Away the Stigma
By Kriste Martinez
An exciting charity golf event will be held in Clermont to ‘Swing Away the Stigma’ of mental health.
It will be held at the Clermont Golf Club on November 28 to raise awareness and to help people feel free to seek help and counselling.
All funds raised from the event will be donated to LIVIN, an organisation focussed on breaking the stigma on mental health through their ‘It Ain’t Weak to Speak’ movement.
LIVIN Ambassador and Event Organiser, Kirstie Brooks, started the event because of her personal struggle with mental health.
“We started this because of my own suicide attempt five years ago,” Kirstie said.
“I just wanted to give back to the organisation that helped me get through it.”
The community has been encouraged to create golf teams and register to play at the event.
Registrations close on November 21 and there are five confirmed teams so far.
The ‘Swing Away the Stigma’ event will start with a sausage sizzle at 12pm and the tee-off will begin at 1pm.
