A LOCAL club has kicked off their season with a speeding start in late February, hosting their first event of the year.

Emerald Karting Club hosted their first round on Saturday February 27, hosting racing events from Cadet 9s all the way to high performance class open performance and DD2 races.

Emerald Karting Club Secretary Shaun Armstrong said the socialising and racing was the best part of the day.

“We had 51 people nominated and racing at the event,” he said.

“We have a world-class facility for kart racing in Emerald and we’re very spoilt to have one of the best facilities in Australia.

“The best thing about the day was the close, fast racing and the social aspect as well.

“It was a day of hard and fast racing and we had many new members, both young and old, who did well.”

The winners for the day were:

Hooper Urquhart for Cadet 9s, Zac Butler for Cadet 12s, Damian White for KA4 Junior Light, Cameron Hope for KA4 Heavy, Ben Finch for KA3 Senior Light and Heavy, Joshua white for Tag Restricted White, Kyle Booth for Tag Restricted Medium, David Sturgeon for Tag Restricted Heavy, Brodie Christian for DD2, Graham Prajbisz for Open Performance and Alan Christain for TAG 125 Heavy.
