Online art for oldies

WITH THE elderly at a greater risk of succumbing to COVID-19, the Rockhampton Art Gallery has made one of their programs available on digital platforms to maintain the health and safety of all.

Beginning in 2019, the 'engAGEing through ARTing' program provides seniors access to art activities and podcasts through the Art Gallery's Facebook page, which focus on social participation and the value of it.

Rockhampton Regional Council Community Services Portfolio spokesperson, Councillor Drew Wickerson, said the online format gives elder citizens the opportunity to remain sociable during COVID-19 and post-retirement.

"With this program going digital, it extends its reach far beyond those who were able to come into the gallery," Cr Wickerson said. "COVID-19 is encouraging everyone to think creatively about how we stay connected, and this is particularly important with seniors.

"EngAGEing through ARTing is full of great content that they can tune into at a time that suits."
