New sporting club to come to Emerald
THIS Friday, Football Queensland – Futsal Participation will visit Emerald to promote a new futsal club.
The club will be a permanent fixture at the PCYC, and this “Come and Try” event will be their first.
Club President Wendy de Leeuw said the club’s objectives are to support and encourage the sport of Futsal for people of all ages, genders, cultures, and abilities.
“Sport is such an important part of a community and we hope that this will be another opportunity for people in Emerald to be more active in a fun environment and to maintain a healthy lifestyle,” she said.
“Our aim is to be up and running in term three.
“We will be starting with a school-based competition for high school-aged kids and hope to make this happen with the help of schoolteachers.”
Ms de Leeuw said if they are successful and have enough volunteers, they would like to expand the competition to children from eight years of age and adults.
For those who are unaware, futsal is played between two teams of five players each, including one goalkeeper, with unlimited substitutions permitted.
The confined space, hard court surface, and smaller ball create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity, and technique.
