Club braves heat for community markets

Capella locals were not deterred from the local Lions Markets by blistering heat.

THE EMERALD community came out into the blistering heat last Sunday to support a local club.

The Emerald Lions Club hosted their monthly flea markets on February 7 in support of the Royal Flying Doctors Service and small businesses around the Central Highlands.

The day, though one of the hottest Emerald had last week, reaching almost 40 degrees, was bustling with locals selling their wares or providing their services on the day.

“February is a bit slow and it was awfully hot, but we ended up with 32 sites on the day,” Emerald Lions Club member Debbie Sheals said.

“It was a great day, and we were happy people could come out to support us.”

There were various vendors on the day, including Coffee Connect’s coffee van, the Emerald Neighbourhood Centre, various handmade crafts, soaps, and wares, and even a jumping castle for the kids.

However, the markets were also collecting donations for a good cause.

Ms Sheals said the gold coin donation for the Royal Flying Doctor Service “did really well”.

“It will be going towards keeping the helicopters in the air,” she said.

“We donate to the Royal Flying Doctor Service every year, but this is just a bit extra for them as you never know when you might need their help with their rescue chopper.

“Coffee Connect donate some profits back to the community.”

Ms Sheals said there was a lot to look forward to at upcoming markets, and many vendors would make a return.

“Both them and the jumping castle will be at every market this year, however Coffee Connect will not be at the March markets,” she said.

“It was a good day, but the heat was not in our favour.

“We’re looking forward to March 7 when we host our next markets.

“The Emerald Lions Club just want to thank the community for their ongoing support.”

The next Lions Club Flea Markets will be held Sunday, March 7, from 8am, and any potential stallholders must complete a registration form and contact Debbie Sheals on 07 4987 4385 between the hours of 7am and 5pm.
