We are pleased to introduce our brand new newspaper, run by locals for locals in the Central Highlands, and invite your support.
The Highlands Leader is a brand new newspaper, but we’re not new to providing local news. The Longreach Printing Company Ltd t/as The Highlands Leader was founded in 1922 by graziers and business owners in the central west of Queensland, about the same time as a similar syndicate established Qantas.
Still locally owned, we are proud to launch The Highlands Leader distributed by our local news agencies and retail outlets from Clermont to Monto, Duaringa to Alpha in central Queensland. On sale on Friday of each week, we will also provide regular news updates and services for the Central Highland on this website.
We fundamentally believe in the important and positive role local news plays in rural communities, and the importance of local media being owned by locals. We have a keen focus on community based journalism and a genuine interest in building into the community in which we all live. We believe by sharing our local stories, victories and challenges we will make The Highlands Leader a cornerstone of our community and something we can all be proud of.
